I have been very disciplined lately, and been keeping with running 2-4 even 5 times a week this past month. I have a 5k race that I will be in next Sunday. Last night I was thinking, there are a couple bad things that you have to watch out for during you run. First off, I don't like to run at night time for reasons Im sure you can figure. But another similar element that I watch out for, are homeless people. I was running in Balboa Park the other day. I was around the back side, the less frequent traveled area and there were two homeless guys. One was laying in the grass sleeping, but shaking like mad. I tried not to stare, but as I walked by he gave a little wave, oops. The other one was an older guy and I just get the stare as I go by...
Besides homeless guys, dogs are the other. Most people when you run by grab the leach and hold them in. Some dogs are great and friendly and you dont have to worry a thing about them. But there are those few that see you and as you go by just do a lurch forward. Man, that sure gives you a jolt. It happened the other day and as I stepped out of the way, I let out a little squeal and my foot went on an uneven crack and almost twisted my ankle!.
The last thing you have to watch out for, is bugs. I think I eat probably 203 bugs a week. People always say, well dont run with you mouth open. Well its not that easy, you need to breath, and breath a lot. Its like a shark, just darting through the water and snatching up the unsuspecting fish. Except Im a runner not a shark and I cut into the bug path. At least I get extra protein right?!

Last night i thought I would mix up my route, and run to the closest track near my house. It is as a park, and its a palendrome, made for racing bikes so the sides of the track are at an incline. There a center track that is flat as well. So I ran to the aprk, then around the park on my exit then back home. When I measured it on my computer at home, it was about 1.25 miles to the park. So I thought great, thats 2.5 miles then I can do a mile on the track and that just over 3 miles. But as I was running (I recently lost my watch:() I thought that this was taking quite a while. But I ended it up nice and strong, but a good effort out. Then I get back to my apt, and check my time and it was an hour! I thought, whoa, I know I didn't run that fast, must be longer that I thought, 4 miles at least.
Today I went onto mapmyrun.com (which I will use from now on instead of tracing a string around the map on screen, hehe) and measured it out. 5.65 miles!! Thats not a bad time for an hour then, at least for me. I am suppose to be trekking in the long runs now being a week before the race, but I had no idea it was that long, yeah rachel!
Well, just thought Id share.
