Well today I ran the Naked juice 5k (I have to add the juice because it sounds strange saying I ran a naked 5k). I received a free registration form from the blood bank and figured I might as well send it in. I mailed it last Monday and started training all week. I was really good and disciplined and ran 4 days this week.
Normally in training for a race you run over what the race length is so you build the endurance. I thought I could do this and gain a mile a day. That was a stupid idea. I ran 1.5 on Monday, 2 on Tues then thur and fri about 3 miles. I thought the course I mapped out was 2.5 miles, but I was running for about 40 minutes, so I was thinking I was really slow. But i guess it was right around 3 because I did pretty good today.
I made it to the race and picked up my number just as the gun went off. There were walkers and runners in this race, so as I was pushing my way through the crowd to get up to the runners I was trying to pin on my number. Once I got past the walkers and into a space it was on. They only had a 1 mile marker, and at mile 1 I had 10 mins. I finished in 34.14. not too bad for only running a week. I ran the whole way, but at my speed there were a couple people that did the walk a bit and run hard for a bit. So we were in a back and fro with them. There was also a guy in a banana suit that ran. He did pretty good too, faster than me! Yup, a banana is faster than me.
I want to keep up with this and having a race to aim for makes running easier when there is a purpose. So I found there is a race in August, about a month away. So Im going to register for that and keep training. I found a really good site that helps with training outlines, so I have a plan to keep with. It would be great if I could get it to 31 minutes. Well see how it goes.
Heres to happy feet!
