My work decided to get back in fashion with how they used to present the Top Producer awards. In the past they had made the brokers into famous album covers, movie characters with academy awards, and classic paintings. This year we brain stormed and thought Circus characters would be fun, and appropriate for the brokers this year.
We spent about a week and a half on the development and design. We had to design the background graphics in a way we could utilize them for several looks, extract the characters from their background, and photshop the brokers faces to the character, then put them all together and figure they Title nad type art. I had to work through this past weekend to get all the posters done in time. Ug, not fun.
At the meeting however, the brokers really enjoyed them, and we got a lot of complements on them.
So without further adu,

Missing concert updates and photos
Let me see, back in October, Pearl Jam made it down to SD. It was the last stop on their tour, well- for the most part. They played a couple shows in Philie at the Paladium I believe, with Social D!! Oh man, wish I could have been there. It was right at Halloween so they came out for their encore dressed in Devo costumes.
But how about the show I went to ... It was incredible 2.5 hrs, 32 song set. They played so many good oldoes, and quite a few newbies. A couple I was happy to hear was Given to Fly, Last Kiss (which they played facing the crowd behind the stage), and I Got Id. I was hoping for Smile, but at least I Got Id. My seat wasn't that great, but still worth it. The guy in front of me had to get used to my super loud whistling skills. I about deafened him in the beginning, but told him this power can't last the whole set.
Main Set: Last Exit, Corduroy, Severed Hand, Brain of J, Elderly Woman, Amongst the Waves, Johnny Guitar, Even Flow, Unthought Known, Parachutes, Daughter/Hey Let Go, I Got Id, You Are, Force of Nature, Got Some, Do the Evolution, RVM.
First Encore: The End (Ed Solo, No Strings), Red Mosquito W/ Ben Harper, Happy Birthday for Keith's Daughter (16), Given to Fly, Last Kiss to ppl behind stage, The Fixer, Life Wasted.
Second Encore: Why Go, Black, Better Man/Save it for Later, Little Wing (Ed's guitar teacher on Guitar, Matt's guitar teacher on drums), So You Wanna be a Rock and Roll Star, Alive, Yellow Ledbetter/Star Spangled Banner.
Ed said its Friday night in their 2nd home. "We will be here a while tonight." Ed give speech before Better Man about Mike and Matt's connection to San Diego and mentions their old teacher is in the crowd, which they played a song with. Ed told story about asking Gas Station boss if he could get a mohawk so he could be a rock star.
Pretty awesome show, definatly on cloud 9 after that. And I wore the shirt from that show pretty much consecutivly for about 2 weeks.
-----------------------------------------------------------
In November the Dropkick Murphey's came to town. I have never seen them, and to make it even better the Youth Brigade was coming with them.
Youth Brigade is a classic 80's punk band. One of their most famous bits is a tour they did with Social D back in 82. So it was interesting after seeing this video then to see the guys, 30 years later, old and still rocking it!! The singer does sound the same for the most part. They were really fun to see, and after their set I was already drenched in sweat. For a few of my favorite songs I was able to make a couple rounds in the pit- it was much more chill than Dropkicks pit.
Then came Dropkicks. The crowd was much more intense for their show. It was interesting to see the difference of the crowds for this show. It seemed the younger kids were up front, crowding and slamming while to older veterans were in the back singing along to every word. I snuck up front for a bit, but then thought Id make my way back to safer territory. The pits and crowd here were a lot more crazy, much faster and forceful. I wish it would have been just a friendly circle to jump around and dance, because thats what you do to Dropkicks! Althought it does give a bit of jump and punch vibe, but much more jigging.
On stage with a acordian and banjo, and seriously rocking out!
One of the singers is seriously hot (one the left with mic), oh man, my type of guy.
Whole band shot.
The last song played was Kiss Me Im Shitfaced and they let all the Girls from the crowd come on stage. There was some chic who loved being on stage, and was just putting on her own show. I would have been over by the singer dancing and screaming with him.
Great show and Im glad I got to see them.

Dream
I had a really strange dream last night. It was like I was living in this cliff world that was arounf a lake. People lived in the cliffs. It seems like there was an old guy that I dated that now had a mowhawk that I wasaround this place with. I dont remember exactly the events of the dream, but we would go water skiing with seaweed attached to the boats and just using our feet. Then there were times that I would be going up the cliffs to someplace, and would fall into the lake. I was then trying to move over to these folks house at water level, but I was just watching it. It seems like I couldnt gfet over there or out of the water, up the cliff.
I thought this was a very bizarre dream, so I looked it up in a dream dictionary. Not knowing what to look up, I tried cliffs and water.
Cliffs:To dream that you or someone falls off a cliff, suggests that you are going through some difficult times and are afraid of what is ahead for you. You fear that you may not be up for the challenge or that you cannot meet the expectations of others.
To dream that you are climbing to the top of a cliff, symbolizes your ambition and drive. The dream may parallel your desires to achieve success and be the at the top of your profession. It is analogous to climbing the corporate ladder.
Climb: To dream that you are climbing up something (ladder, rope, etc.), signifies that you are trying to or you have overcome a great struggle. It also suggests that your goals are finally within reach. Climbing also means that you have risen to a level of prominence within the social or economic sphere.
To dream that you are climbing down a cliff, indicates that you need to acknowledge and take notice of your unconscious. You are expressing some hesitance and reservation with delving into your more negative feelings. Alternatively, it suggests that you may be feeling low or emotionally drained.
Water: To see water in your dream, symbolizes your unconscious and your emotional state of mind. Water is the living essence of the psyche and the flow of life energy. It is also symbolic of spirituality, knowledge, healing and refreshment. To dream that water is boiling, suggests that you are expressing some emotional turmoil. It also may mean that feelings from your unconscious are surfacing and ready to be acknowledged. You need to let out some steam.
To see muddy or dirty water in your dream, indicates that you are wallowing in your negative emotions. You may need to devote some time to clarify your mind and find internal peace. Alternatively, it suggests that your thinking/judgment is unclear and clouded. If you are immersed in muddy water, then it indicates that you are in over your head in a situation and are overwhelmed by your emotions.
Well, I think that sums up the craziness I have been seeing in my life lately. I think I need to be more proactive to work with things and get over those cliffs. So I guess that means I need to get busy and stop messing around on the computer. You cant walk on water in bed, so get going.

Carz Carz Carz
The time has finally come, I bought a car!!! I have a reliable form of transportation, and it was a pretty good deal. I bought a 2006 Toyota Carolla. The advantage of a Carolla over a civic is it's rear seat folds down. That's it, Civics and Carolla are pretty much the same, have a similar Consumer Guide rating, but it'll be nice to also haul some small cargo. I fit my bike in the trunk yesterday. I got it at a pretty good deal, and I didn't spend all my savings!!
Obviously this provides quite a bit of change for my time management. I'm still used to waking up at 6 to catch the bus. But I have to remind myself that I can sleep in, and my alarm is set for later. This also provides more time for me to get ready at home. I was walking about a half mile total in the mornings from the bus stops. I would wear some comfy walking shoes and bring my nice shoes packed in my bag. But I can wear the nice shoes right out from the house. I am still going to leave a paior of sneaks at work for when I have to swing my the bank, the mall or something right around work. Also I used to put my makeup on on the bus to work. It's not a good idea to put on make up while driving. I suppose I can do my hair as well. I would straighten it at work, but I think I can take care of that before. I don't have to be to work till 8.30, but since Ive been driving Ive been in right at 8.
It will be nice for grocery shopping. I used to take my little old lady cart, so I could get a decent amount of groceries. The Vons is only a few blocks from my apt. But making it to Henrys for my produce, I would have to make it a seperate trip because it is about almost a mile away.
Well, here she is. And if you have never been to my apt, theres a view of my cute little apt's.
Also speaking of cars, my friend Eric and I went to a car show this weekend. It was at the Barona Resort and Casino drag stip. Barona is an Indian reservation, so it was pretty cool because lots more would fly without cops patrolling.
So we got there just in time to see some of the rods racing. Then after them was the muscle cars. It was pretty awesome, real lous too:)
There was about 100+ cars on display. It wasnt too hot by the time we got there, quite nice actually. So we just walked around checking out the cars, catting with folks.
At night there were a few bands that were playing. Good fun rockabilly bands, surf rock stuff. It was a pretty good time. Definatly going to be chacking that place out more.

Weekend tid-bits
(I hope this doesn't get emailed out when I post it, if you get this post in your email, please let me know)
This weekend there was an event called CANstruction. It was a benefit for the San Diego Food Bank where Architects and designers would build structures- buildings, animals etc out of cans. Although it turned out to be rather a dissapointment. Not many companies submitted, there were only 2 structures actually. I suppose the 'recession' having left a lot of firms lower on staff, and summer schedules could be the reason. But the two that were there were sufficient.
This one is suppose to be the Obama campaign logo. It was interesting to read the write up for this. It was a school that made this, and they put a lot of thought into what cans they used to build it, so they signified key parts of 'americanism'. I don't think it represents the logo well, why they didn't make it round would have done it. But pretty cool how they found cans that were sort of parallelogram to give the wave.
This one is supposed to be Wall-E. I thought it was pretty cool how they used bags of beans for the wheel/tank belt.
Friday caught Carlos band at the Tin Can Ale House. Nice little bar, but I questioned if you tip someone who just opens a can.
Check out my random car spotting blog, caught a couple good ones this weekend.
Sat went around with Esther to get out of the house and heat of east county. Wentt o La Jolla Whole Foods for a Wine and cheese tasting that was from a vineyard in Temecula. Found a yummy sparking syrah. Who knew there was sparkling red?!
After that since we were in La Jolla and could smell the beach, we had to make our way there. The drive to the beach from where we are is one of the best scenic routes in SD. We got there just as high tide was coming in, and as you can see there isn't much beach before you get to the cliffs. The marine layer was real dense right by the beach, just in half a mile it was clear skies. Very nice out though. Nice day with Esther.
Sunday I cleaned and organized my house for about 4 hours. Lots of organizing and putting away stuff that started to accumulate in places. I hadn't had a chance to dispose of or put away the painting supplies from the other weekend. I wasn't exactly sure how you are supposed to dispose of old, used up paint cans. Its harsh chemicals, so I wasn't sure if you could just throw it out. Turns out I guess thats what you do. I googled it to make sure, and it said take the lids off and if theres a bit left then out some cat litter to help dry it up. Then just put it in a plastic lined box and set it out by the trash. I now have a nice clean corner where it has been habbitating for the past 6 months (since starting my first project).
That being cleaned I had a big amp that the stuff was sitting on. I wanted to use that amp under my desk, so that got me to remove the boxes and crap that I had stashed under it. It was just old modem boxes and electronic cables and such. So that prompted me to get rid of all my old dead electronics (cell phones, cameras, speakers, wires). turns out Good Will has a electronic recycling program. That was good to find out because I had developed a bag of give away clothes, so 2 errands in one stop, Score! I even went to the library and finished my grocery shopping by 5.
So after cooking a yummy meal of lemon garlic pork roast with tiny potatoes and green beans (mmmmm)–
Its time to take care of a few sketches I would do for a friend. Pretty productive day Rach, good job!
